Immersive AAC Class Week 5: Color!

Week 5 in our Immersive AAC Class was a short one because of the 4th of July holidays but we had a great time learning about and experimenting with color. One of our favorite activities was making baking soda and vinegar volcanoes. We added glitter and food coloring to make it them colorful. The students got to pick their colors and add each ingredient saying “put it in.”

Another favorite was “decorating Miss Lindsey.” I brought in all my colored hairsprays and lipsticks and the students got to pick a color and body part to color (e.g., “yellow nose”). I ended up looking like a clown and the kids loved it! We paired a song with the melody of “The Bear Goes Over the Mountain” with new words: “Miss Lindsey has green hair…”

We made slime using thermochromatic pigment to make the slime change colors with heat. While making the slime we practiced saying “put it in” and “stir it” when we added ingredients and then got to “feel it” and “watch it change.”

Music Therapy group was a lot of fun! Our MT brought boomwhackers, color-coded percussion tubes that the kids enjoyed playing on different body parts, the floor and the table.

Even though we only met for 2 days this week, the kids had a blast learning about and experimenting with color. Stayed tuned… next week focuses on touch and smell!
